The 2023 CBA draft conference will be held in Chengdu from 15th day of this month. As the 9th draft conference in CBA history, 71 players will run this year.
Although the CBA draft is far from comparable to NBA in terms of player standards, more than 100 young talents have entered CBA through the draft since 2015.
Among the more than 100 people, there are also many players who have been selected as All Stars, rushed into the national team, and got the top salary contract of the club.

In the 2015 CBA draft conference, a total of 20 players signed up, including 17 college players, 1 Hong Kong player, 1 CBA club recommended player, and 1 Sports Institute recommended player.
In the end, Chongqing Soaring Dragon (now North control), who held the first prize, chose Fang Junlei from Northwestern Polytechnical University. The remaining CBA teams chose to abandon the election, and only one person was selected for the whole conference.
According to the rules formulated by the Basketball Association, Fang Junlei will sign a 1+1 contract with Chongqing team (the minimum guaranteed salary is 300000 RMB), of which Chongqing team has the priority to renew the contract in the second year.
Fang Junlei was born on August 3, 1992, with a height of 1.83 meters and a weight of 70 kilograms. He was a field guard and graduated from Changsha Mingde Middle School, a famous basketball school. He came into contact with basketball at the age of 5 and began non-professional training at the age of 6. Years of playing made him have excellent basic skills. He was good at shooting from medium and long distances, and controlling and passing was also his strong point. He once hit 5 three points in the 15th CUBA National 16-year-8 competition, and shot down the luxury data of 32 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals, helping the Western Institute of Technology to advance into the top eight in the country. In the five years of college, Fang Junlei played 45 games in total, with an average of 11.2 points, 1.9 assists and 1.9 steals, helping the team reach the top eight in the country four times.
Fang Junlei was also surprised when he was interviewed that year when he was elected as the No. 1 champion: “There was no team to contact me before, and the outside world also said that CBA was indifferent to the draft. I was about to graduate from graduate school and began to find a job.”
In the first three months of just coming to Chongqing team, Fang Junlei also deeply realized the difference between professional basketball and campus basketball. During the first centralized test, Fang Junlei successfully passed the reentry run, squat, bench press and other projects, but the two-minute intensity shot was not up to standard twice, so he had to take part in the supplementary test in mid-October.
In the end, Fang Junlei reluctantly passed the second supplementary test and got work license with no danger.
However, the completion of the physical test is only the basis of the foundation for CBA players. At that time, the team leader Wang Xidong (Lin Yi’s Bole in Tongxi youth team) once said that Fang Junlei’s ability was OK, but his body is still relatively thin, and he can’t adapt to the rhythm of CBA, especially in defense.
In the end, Fang Junlei only played 2 minutes in the rookie season and got 2 points and 1 assist. After the contract with Chongqing expired in 2016, he left the team and bid farewell to the CBA stage.
In 2017, Fang Junlei revealed in an interview with the media that he was responsible for the expansion of book channels outside the province in Xinhua Bookstore, and also served as the assistant coach of NBL Yongsheng men’s basketball selection camp.
In 2021, Fang Junlei quit his job in Xinhua Bookstore, officially joined Hunan Technology and Business University, became a physical education teacher, and formed the school men’s basketball coaching team with several other teachers.

Zhao Huanyu: Why did you suddenly give up your job in Xinhua Bookstore and devote yourself to campus basketball in colleges and universities?
Fang Junlei: After playing for so many years, relatively speaking, colleges and universities are more suitable for me. At the end of last year, we met a good opportunity. Hunan Technology and Business University here intends to recruit a basketball professional PE teacher and also a coach of men’s basketball. The opportunity was rare, so I signed up, passed the exam later, and then came here. As you know, I was in Xinhua bookstore before. Compared with colleges and universities, bookstore is an enterprise after all. I am is responsible for doing some bidding work, and it may go further and further with basketball. Then, from my own point of view, I still want to do some work related to basketball. As you said just now, it may be more suitable for me to devote myself to campus basketball.
Zhao Huanyu: I read an article before saying that you have been serving as a basketball coach in the society all these years. I don’t know if this experience is one of the reasons why you transferred to college physical education teacher?
Fang Junlei: I have worked as a basketball coach outside, such as our orthopedic basketball team in Hunan province, and some like banks have also looked for me. First, exercise yourself. Second, I think I can give them some help in this related field, so they found me. Although I don’t play professional now, I still have a passion for basketball.
Zhao Huanyu: did the school recruit you to form a high-level basketball team to compete in CUBA professional group?
Fang Junlei: Hunan Industrial and Commercial University is a university with a relatively strong campus sports culture, with women’s basketball men. School women’s basketball is a traditional project and has won the first place in Hunan province for many times, but they are not high-level sports teams, but ordinary students, which is commonly known as CUBA Sunshine Group “. The leaders of our sports teaching and research department also pay more attention to the development of the basketball team. They have the idea to improve the performance of men’s basketball, so they let me join the coaching team of the school men’s basketball. In recent years, they may also have the intention to form a high-level basketball team, which may also be one of the purposes for them to recruit me.
It is worth mentioning that although only one person of Fang Junlei was selected in the first draft, there were still some players we were familiar with among the 20 people who signed up-Cao Fang, who has challenged CBA many times, in the first round of 17 years, Liu Hongbo showed on the 9th (after playing CBA for a year, he chose to retire and start a business, and once went to “this is the dunk”), and now the men’s basketball player in Shandong, Qiao Wenhan.
