Live broadcast, July 7th, a new labor agreement was passed in WNBA2020, in which the priority rules will be implemented from 2023.
Over the years, many WNBA players have played in overseas leagues in winter. Half of the WNBA players participated in other leagues in the last offseason. Players earn much more overseas than WNBA. For example, WNBA superstar Stewart signed a super top salary of 228000 dollars in 2022, while her annual salary in the Russian club was 1.5 million dollars.
The priority rule requires WNBA players to report to the team before May 1, and violators will be fined. From 2024, stricter regulations will be implemented: the start of training camp is the deadline for registration, and players who have not returned will be suspended for one season.
However, overseas leagues often last until the middle of May, which conflicts with the beginning of the WNBA season. This year, players such as Astor Nador-fall have chosen to quit the WNBA season.
